Patients that experience pain, tingling, numbness, weakness, and/or swelling in the hand or fingers may be suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). This can be caused by compression upon the nerves which travel through a "tunnel" in the wrist leading to the hand and fingers. Compression can occur when the carpal, or wrist bones are misaligned, or when the connective tissue within the tunnel is inflamed or swollen. There are diagnostic tests which Dr. Snider can do as well as neurological tests which can determine whether or not someone has actual CTS and, if so, to what extent the severity may be. Most patients with CTS can respond well to non-surgical treatment including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's), injections, manipulation and physical therapy. By addressing the pain, inflammation, alignment and strength, patients have a good chance to return to work and personal activities without undergoing surgery. When surgery is necessary, following up with post-surgical rehab is vital in order to restore strength, function and range of motion as well as to help prevent further occurrence of pain.
