Spine Surgery Prevention

Most patients who suffer from herniated, bulging or degenerative discs have been told that they need surgery.  However, we have been able to offer a successful alternative to back and neck surgery for many patients that were considered "surgical candidates."  We do this by providing MedX spinal rehabilitation.  The MedX program provides reconditioning of the affected spinal region as well as active spinal decompression of the affected disc(s).  Studies show that the MedX program can be 80% to 90% successful in preventing surgery.  Regular spinal decompression only serves to temporarily decompress the spinal discs.  However, MedX active decompression actually moves the bulging or herniated disc material anteriorly, or forward, and away from the spinal cord and nerves.  This is accomplished by repetitive spinal extension exercises which also improves the disc hydration and nutrition in addition to restoring strength and function.  When this is accomplished, the pain is usually decreased or eliminated long term rather than just temporarily. This is why MedX is such a successful alternative to spine surgery in both the neck (cervical spine) and lower back (lumbar spine).  In the rare instance when a patient has undergone a full bout of MedX rehabilitation and still needs to undergo a surgical procedure, the spinal muscles and joints will be in much better condition which allows for a potentially better outcome following surgery.
